Applying for Academy Status
To date over 1200 school have applied to become academies. Of these approximately 600 have been judged to be outstanding in their most recent Ofsted Inspection.
To apply for academy status each school has to visit the DFE website and register their interest.
We suggest the following strategy.
- A meeting of governors to discuss academy status
- Consultation with staff and employees about the proposal
- A consultation with parents/carers to discuss the proposal for academy status
- A formal meeting of the governing body to vote on the proposal to become an academy
- Notification to the DFE to confirm the schools wish to become an academy
The final decision confirming academy status rests with the Secretary of State for Education,
